Course you studied at Kendal College: Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music
What was it like being a student at the College?
I thoroughly enjoyed being a student at Kendal College. To me, it was always more than just being a student, both the students and tutors were like a family. You could always count on getting help in whatever area help was required, and you were never made to feel like any question was a stupid question. Being a student at Kendal College was so much more than I ever expected. Even when things happened which may have been tricky or outsiders looked down on Kendal College for, the thing that mattered most is how we got over it and continued to run as a strong, learning unit.
What are you doing now?
I am currently attending The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) studying a degree in Music, Theatre & Entertainment Management.
How did the College prepare you for what you’re doing now?
I was always unsure as to what I would want my future to entail, the only thing I could count on is that I wanted Music to be an element. In my 2nd year at Kendal College we were required to do our Major Music Project (MMP) we organised and performed two gigs in commercial venues. During this task I naturally stood into the leadership role and ended up being the one to bring it all together. It was during this I realised how much I loved Management and how good I was at it. If it wasn’t for Kendal College I’m unsure I would have ever gotten the chance to explore this.
What is the most enjoyable part of your course?
The most enjoyable part of my course at LIPA is definitely the networking. There are so many opportunities to meet new people and build up contacts. The people I attend University with are more than likely going to be working with me in the industry one day, and that is the most important thing to remember.
Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
I always think future questions are hard as nobody really knows what the future holds, but I hope to be working within the Festival sector of the industry or Artist Management.
Would you recommend studying at Kendal College (and why)?
I would 100% recommend studying at Kendal College. Even if you don’t think you’re going to go into the Music Industry as a full-time job but you’re unsure about what you want to do as a career yet. You learn quality lessons at Kendal I never would have expected, and you get to do what you love most, music! All in all it’s just such a good piece of my life I can treasure forever.
If you could give one piece of advice to people considering College, what would it be?
I went to Kendal College in the headspace that I wanted a break from heavy academic studies, but I still wanted to do something worthwhile rather than just having a gap year and not really doing anything. By doing this I discovered I did in fact want a career in the industry and there are so many more sectors of the industry than you think, obviously not everyone’s gonna be the next Beyoncé but Beyoncé couldn’t be Beyoncé without the people behind the scenes making it happen!
