At Kendal College, we offer apprenticeships in construction and building services, including Plumbing & Heating, Gas Engineering, Carpentry & Joinery, Electrical Installation and Property Maintenance.
Our courses are suitable for school’s leavers entering a trade, through to experienced employees looking to upskill and take the next step in their career.
Our apprenticeship programmes are taught by experienced former industry professionals, in our dedicated construction facility, using industry standard plant, machinery and hand tools. Many of our programmes are flexible to meet the needs of individual employers and employees, with teaching being delivered in the workshop, classroom and workplace.

Property Maintenance Operative, Level 2
Course Overview
This apprenticeship is ideal for learners, new to, and currently working in roles such as Maintenance Assistant, Property Engineer or Multi-Skilled Technician. Learners on this course will gain and develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to optimise property condition, maximise quality, cost effectiveness and ensure health, safety and client satisfaction.
Entry Requirements
Ideally learners should hold 4 GCSEs at grade (3-9) including English and Maths and be employed for thirty-hours a week or more.
Training, Knowledge & Skills
Health and safety, working at height, repairs to the fabric of a property, plumbing, electrical installations, plant, machinery safety systems, sustainable practices, safe use of hand tools, stock and resource control, planned preventative maintenance, refurbishment and deep-clean, reactive maintenance and customer service.
Behaviours
Flexible attitude, commitment to quality and excellence, ownership of work, performing under pressure, problem solving and client focused.

Assessment
Workplace portfolio, research assignment, knowledge assessment, practical tasks and competency interview.

Carpentry & Joinery, Level 2
Course Overview
Carpentry & Joinery encompasses both site-carpentry and architectural-joinery, with learners completing this apprenticeship choosing to study one of these options. This apprenticeship is suitable for both new, and current, employees in the industry hoping to gain and develop Carpentry & Joinery knowledge, skills and behaviours.
Entry Requirements
Ideally learners should hold 4 GCSEs at grade (3-9) including English and Maths and be employed for thirty-hours a week or more.
Training, Knowledge & Skills
Health, safety and welfare, planning and completing work, moving, handling and storing resources, interpreting verbal and written work instructions, learners will also complete specialist units in either site carpentry or architectural joinery depending on their choice of pathway.
Behaviours
Communication, team-working, logical thinking, time-management and adaptability.
Delivery
Day release.
Assessment
Learners will be assessed through a formal qualification, a knowledge test and a practical skills test.

Advanced Carpentry & Joinery, Level 3
Course Overview
Carpentry & Joinery encompasses both site-carpentry and architectural-joinery, with learners completing this apprenticeship choosing to study one of these options. This apprenticeship is suitable for those who have completed Carpentry & Joinery, Level 2 and now have responsibility for managing their own and others peoples work, as well as carrying out complex and often bespoke work.
Entry Requirements
Ideally learners should hold 5 GCSEs at grade (4-9) including English and Maths, have completed Carpentry & Joinery, Level 2 and be employed for thirty-hours a week or more.
Training
Health, safety and welfare, planning and completing work, selecting resources and interpreting technical specifications; learners will also complete specialist units in either site carpentry or architectural joinery depending on their choice of pathway.

Installation Electrician/Maintenance Electrician, Level 3
Course Overview
This apprenticeship course is suitable for both new, and current, employees working in electrical installation to become competent in installing, maintaining and repairing electrical installations in industrial, commercial and domestic settings. Learners who have existing experience may be able to complete this programme in a shorter time frame.
Entry Requirements
Ideally learners should hold 5 GCSEs at grade (4-9) including English and Maths and be employed for thirty-hours a week or more.

Design, development, manufacture, construction, commissioning, operation or maintenance of products, equipment, processes, systems or services.

Plumbing & Domestic Heating Technician, Level 3
Course Overview
This apprenticeship course is suitable for both new, and current, employees working in plumbing and heating to become competent in planning, selecting, installing, servicing, commissioning and maintaining installations in industrial, commercial and domestic settings.
Entry Requirements
Ideally learners should hold 5 GCSEs at grade (4-9) including English and Maths and be employed for thirty-hours a week or more.

Health & safety, plumbing systems, electrical components and control systems, plumbing science and processes, and customer service.

Gas Engineering Operative, Level 3
Course Overview
This apprenticeship course is suitable for both new, and current, employees working in Gas Engineering to become competent in installing, commissioning, decommissioning and the ongoing service and repair of gas installations in industrial, commercial and domestic settings.

Ideally learners should hold 5 GCSEs at grade (4-9) including English and Maths and be employed for thirty-hours a week or more.
Training, Knowledge & Skills
Health, safety and environmental legislation, gas and electrical installation, commissioning, decommissioning and ongoing service and repair, electrical and mechanical principles, energy efficiency and regulatory compliance.
Behaviours
